The latest addition to “The Walking Dead” universe, “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” made its debut on AMC and AMC+ earlier this week. For those without access to these platforms, there’s good news: the first episode is currently accessible for free online.

This spinoff series follows Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) on his journey through a fractured yet resilient France as he seeks a way back home. Along the way, the connections he forges complicate his initial plans.

In the premiere episode, Daryl Dixon’s arrival in France sets off a violent chain of events that unintentionally endangers a young boy, placing him at the center of a growing religious movement. Daryl agrees to help ensure the boy’s safety in exchange for assistance in returning to America.

With previous plot descriptions hinting at stunning set pieces, this offshoot series is set after the conclusion of “The Walking Dead” and transports the fan-favorite character across the Atlantic to France, offering a new perspective on a world overrun by chaos. Clémence Poésy plays Isabelle, the female lead and a member of a progressive religious group who joins forces with Daryl for a journey across France, confronting her dark past in Paris. Adam Nagaitis portrays Quinn, a displaced Brit who becomes influential in post-apocalyptic Paris as a black marketeer and the owner of the Demimonde, an underground nightclub.

David Zabel takes on the role of showrunner for “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.”

The series features an ensemble cast including Norman Reedus, Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, Eriq Ebouaney, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi, and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi. It is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Showrunner David Zabel, Norman Reedus, Greg Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, and Daniel Percival.

Originally announced as a Daryl/Carol series, it appears that Melissa McBride may also make a limited return to the series.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is not the only spinoff series available to fans. “The Walking Dead: Dead City” premiered earlier this year, and according to Noah Levine’s review, the series’ appeal appears to stem from its unique setting.
