The extended prequel to the Friday the 13th movie franchise aptly titled Crystal Lake has been a discussion within the horror community since October of 2022. It has been previously announced that legacy character, Adrienne King, who portrayed Alice Hardy in the original 1980 Friday the 13th film, as well as a cameo in its sequel, Friday the 13th Part II, was joining the show as a main character of the upcoming prequel. Adrienne’s character has been kept under wraps, with some fans assuming she’ll portray the iconic and villainous Mrs. Voorhees since Alice was a teenager in the original film and Adrienne couldn’t reprise the role of Alice since Adrienne is now in her 60s.

Along with Adrienne King’s return to the franchise, another key player of the original Friday the 13th film may be joining the production team.  Tom Savini, who did the special effects for the original 1980 Friday the 13th film and one of its sequels, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, is joining the fray in an unknown capacity. It should be noted that showrunner, executive producer, and writer, Bryan Fuller, posted a tweet with Tom Savini himself that read “TALKING STABBY CALENDAR DAYS WITH O.G. @THETomSavini #FridayThe13th #CRYSTALLAKEIt’s only appropriate that Savini returns to helm the special effects of the prequel since that is his specialty, of course.

Crystal Lake will be released on Peacock as an extended series and prequel to the original 1980 Friday the 13th film. The only detail, as of now, is that it’ll explore the relationship between Mrs. Voorhees and her son, Jason. The series has been greenlit for a guarantee of two seasons, even though the first episode didn’t even air yet. The release date is supposed to be sometime in 2024, according to Adrienne King. The original screenwriter of the 1980 Friday the 13th film, Victor Miller, will be executive producing the series, and Kevin Williamson, of Scream fame, will be writing at least one episode.
