Apple Increases the Cost of Apple TV+
Apple is implementing price increases for several of its subscription services, with the notable changes affecting Apple TV+ and other offerings. Apple TV+ is seeing its monthly subscription price rise from $6.99 to $9.99, marking a significant adjustment. Additionally, the annual subscription cost is shifting from $69 to $99. This adjustment aligns with a recent trend in the industry, with various streaming services revising their prices.
In the case of Apple News+, the monthly fee will increase to $12.99 from $9.99. Furthermore, Apple Arcade, a platform for gaming enthusiasts, will also see a change in pricing, rising from $4.99 to $6.99 as part of a broader price adjustment strategy.
The pricing for Apple One bundles is also being altered, with individual plans now priced at $19.95 per month, up from the previous rate of $16.95. Family plans are increasing to $25.95 per month from $22.9, and the premier plan is now priced at $37.95, up from $32.99.
Apple previously adjusted the pricing for Apple TV+ a year ago in October, raising it from $4.99 to $6.99 per month. It’s important to note that Apple TV+ had been positioned as one of the more affordable streaming services. This change follows a broader trend in the industry, with many platforms revising subscription prices as they reevaluate the value and revenue dynamics in the competitive streaming landscape.
Apple TV+ boasts a roster of original titles, including popular shows like “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” and “Severance,” as well as the 2022 Oscar Best Picture-winner, “Coda.” The platform also offers live sports programming with events like MLB Friday Night Baseball and Major League Soccer. Apple maintains a policy of not disclosing specific subscriber data or providing individual platform breakdowns within its Services division, which reported over $21 billion in revenue in the last quarter.
This pricing adjustment by Apple coincides with similar changes made by other streaming giants. Netflix recently increased the cost of its premium plan to $22.99 per month, a $3 price hike, while its basic service now costs $11.99 per month, up from $9.99. Over the summer, Disney raised prices for its ad-free Disney+ and Hulu services, and NBCUniversal implemented its first price increase for Peacock since its launch in 2020. These adjustments reflect the evolving dynamics in the streaming industry.
