Warner Bros. Officially Announces New ‘Gremlins’ Movie and ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel

In an in-depth interview with *Deadline*, Warner Bros. CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have revealed some exciting new projects in the works at the studio, confirming that a brand-new installment in the ‘Gremlins’ franchise is officially in development!
This news comes as a confirmation of a previous report from January, where we learned that a new Gremlins film, spearheaded by Chris Columbus, was a “franchise hope” for Warner Bros.
Abdy shared her excitement in the interview, stating, “We’re super excited about Amblin developing with Chris Columbus, new entries in the Gremlins and Goonies franchises.” Columbus, of course, is the writer behind the original 1984 Gremlins, and his return to the franchise has fans buzzing with anticipation.
Talk of a third Gremlins movie has surfaced and faded over the years, with multiple attempts at reviving the series. In fact, a script by Columbus was first rumored in 2017, with reports describing it as “twisted” and “dark.” At the time, Columbus himself said, “I’m really proud of the script. It’s as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again, so hopefully, we’ll see that movie soon.”
For now, fans can catch the animated prequel Gremlins: The Wild Batch, which is currently streaming on Max.
In the same conversation with Deadline, De Luca also hinted that a sequel to last year’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, is in the works. When asked about sequels to Minecraft and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, De Luca responded, “Imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
Stay tuned for more updates on the future of the Gremlins and Beetlejuice franchises as we learn more!
