Before Mickey Mouse became an icon, there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, introduced by Walt Disney in 1927. Over time, Oswald was replaced by Mickey Mouse, marking a pivotal moment in animation history.

Now, with both Mickey and Oswald characters residing in the public domain, a surge of horror projects featuring these iconic figures has emerged this year. The latest addition to this trend is the announcement of “Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole,” an upcoming horror film that promises a sinister twist on the iconic cartoon classic, delving into the pure horror genre. The teaser trailer for the film, released today, surprisingly captures the essence of a classic black & white cartoon, infused with a chilling horror twist.

Filmmaker and producer Lilton Stewart III, along with Lucinda Bruce, are in the process of finalizing the cast for the film, set to commence filming this spring. Stewart expressed excitement about the project, stating, “Creating a new type of horror film that has never been done before has always been a dream of mine. I think the audience will be surprised at the significant differences between ‘Oswald’ and other films in the spin-off horror space.”

The narrative follows the main character, Art, and his friends on a seemingly innocent journey to trace his family lineage, turning into a bloodcurdling nightmare when they stumble upon the abandoned home of his Great-Grandpa Oswald. Transported to a place lost in time, enveloped in dark Hollywood devilry, the group faces a harrowing ordeal.

As Art’s Great-Grandpa’s cartoon Rabbit comes to life as a malevolent entity, the group is terrorized. Together, they must navigate a haunting prison, desperately trying to escape before falling victim to the Rabbit’s sinister plans.

With a 142-page script in place, the film will be produced in collaboration with Mana Animation Studio for animation, Tandem Post House for post-production, and VFX Supervisor Bob Homami, known for his work on “The Tomorrow War,” “Oblivion,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Currently, the production team is actively seeking investors to help realize their funding goals and bring this unique horror film to a wide audience. To learn more about “Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole,” visit https://www.oswaldsrabbit.com.
