Renowned for his bone-chilling performances in horror films such as [REC], The Conjuring 2, and IT: Chapter 2, Javier Botet is set to mesmerize audiences once again in the upcoming summer release, The Last Voyage of the Demeter. This time, he sinks his teeth into the role of the legendary vampire, Dracula.

Based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s iconic horror novel, the film follows a group of characters aboard the Russian schooner Demeter as they fall, victim, one by one to the insidious Dracula. Botet’s portrayal of the bloodthirsty creature is both bestial and captivating, as revealed in a recently released TV spot for the movie and Fangoria’s latest cover story.

Fangoria’s July issue features an arresting and crystal-clear image of Javier Botet’s Dracula, offering horror enthusiasts the most detailed look at the character design thus far. Previous glimpses of Botet’s Dracula were shrouded in darkness or shown in brief cuts within the trailers, making this cover shot a true highlight for fans.

Take a look at Fangoria’s cover below, accompanied by a revealing new TV spot for the film:

The Last Voyage of the Demeter sets sail for theaters on August 11, 2023.

Writer Bragi Schut’s script for The Last Voyage of the Demeter has been in circulation for several years, with various directors attached to the project at different stages. Ultimately, director André Øvredal (known for The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) came on board the ship, as announced in 2021, to helm the Amblin Partners production.

Corey Hawkins (Kong: Skull Island, “The Walking Dead”) takes the lead role in The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The latest screenplay adaptation was penned by Zak Olkewicz (Bullet Train).

The film focuses on a single chapter from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, specifically the Captain’s Log. It narrates the eerie events that unfold as the ill-fated crew attempts to survive their ocean voyage from Carpathia to London, relentlessly stalked by a terrifying presence aboard the ship. When the Demeter finally reaches Whitby Harbour, it is discovered as a derelict vessel, with no sign of the crew.

The cast also features Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, alongside Javier Botet in the role of Dracula.
