Universal and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw to Remake Wes Craven’s Classic ‘The People Under the Stairs’
Hollywood has set its sights on remaking Wes Craven’s lesser-known gem, ‘The People Under the Stairs’, in a move reported by Deadline. The script for this upcoming venture will be crafted by Ezra Claytan Daniels, known for his work on ‘Doom Patrol’ and ‘Night Sky’, slated for Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
Under the helm of Monkeypaw Productions, with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld onboard as producers, the project is currently in its initial stages of development.
The original film, a creation of Universal Studios penned and directed by Wes Craven, follows the story of Fool (Brandon Adams), a young individual who trespasses into the home of his family’s callous landlords. Inside, he uncovers a disturbing reality where incestuous siblings have tormented and imprisoned boys beneath the stairs of their eerie residence. As Fool endeavors to escape before falling prey to the deranged individuals, he encounters their daughter, Alice (A.J. Langer), who has been sheltered from her parents’ extreme tendencies. Together, Fool and Alice strive for freedom.
