The Arctic’s chilling veil engulfs “True Detective: Night Country,” a fresh chapter of HBO’s renowned series set to debut on Max (previously HBO Max) next month.

Crafted by writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer Issa López (known for “Tigers Are Not Afraid”), “Night Country” stars Jodie Foster alongside Kali Reis, with the full trailer now released.

The premiere for “True Detective: Night Country” is slated for January 14, 2024, exclusively on Max. The ensemble cast includes John Hawkes (“Deadwood,” “Winter’s Bone”), Christopher Eccleston (“The Leftovers”), Fiona Shaw (“Killing Eve”), Finn Bennett (“Domina”), and Anna Lambe (“Three Pines”).

Set in Ennis, Alaska, as the long winter night descends, the eight men managing the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. Detectives Liz Danvers (portrayed by Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (played by Reis) must confront their own darkness while unraveling the haunted truths buried beneath the eternal ice to crack the case.

Issa López serves as the showrunner, writer, and directs all episodes of this chilling season.

This installment marks the series’ first season without creator Nic Pizzolatto. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson return as executive producers, with Foster also taking on an executive producing role.

“True Detective” debuted on HBO in 2014, with its exceptional first season setting a high bar. Subsequent seasons didn’t quite match the acclaim of the initial outing.
