“Trapped in a ‘Terrifying Puzzle’: Anna Diop, Willem Dafoe, and Corey Hawkins in ‘The Man in My Basement'”
Anna Diop, known for her role in ‘Nanny,’ is set to star in the screen adaptation of Walter Mosley’s psychological thriller novel, ‘The Man in My Basement.’ Variety reports this morning that Diop will join the cast alongside Willem Dafoe (‘Poor Things’) and Corey Hawkins (‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’). The film is being directed by Nadia Latif.
Hawkins portrays Charles Blakey, a man facing financial struggles and on the brink of losing his family home. His fortunes change when he receives a proposition from a mysterious businessman, Anniston Bennet (played by Dafoe). Bennet offers to rent out the basement of Charles’ home, promising to clear his debts in return. However, accepting this offer plunges Charles into a chilling journey that confronts his family’s past and forces him to grapple with race, trauma, and the nature of evil.
Variety also reveals that Anna Diop will play the role of Narciss Gully, a local academic and antiques expert passionate about preserving African American history, particularly the stories of African American women. As she delves deeper into Charles’ family history, she realizes that his basement holds the key to uncovering the narratives she has been searching for.
‘The Man in My Basement’ will be distributed by Hulu, with more details about its release yet to be announced. Stay tuned for updates.
