French director Xavier Gens, known for ‘Frontiers’ and ‘Cold Skin,’ returns with the action-packed thriller ‘Mayhem!’ IFC Films recently dropped the film’s trailer and announced its release date set for January 5, 2024.
The trailer teases intense action sequences and has garnered high praise, particularly for its exceptional fight choreography, a hallmark of Gens’ latest creation.
The movie follows Sam (played by Nassim Lyes), a professional boxer getting ready for release from a French prison. However, his past catches up with him, compelling him to flee the country. Fast forward five years, Sam’s leading a simple life in Thailand with his wife Mia and her daughter, working multiple jobs to support his family and fulfill his dream of owning a piece of land for a restaurant. But a botched job turns his life upside down when local crime boss Narong (played by Olivier Gourmet) targets Sam, subjecting him to brutal violence. Left shattered but alive, Sam is driven by a singular purpose: to seek ruthless and bone-crushing revenge.
The movie also stars Olivier Gourmet, Loryn Nounay, Vithaya Pansringarm, and Sahajak Boonthanakit.
“Xavier Gens has crafted an energetic and propulsive film, showcasing some of the most impressive fight choreography we have ever seen,” remarked Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ Film Group. “While winking at films like ‘The Raid’ and ‘Taken,’ Xavier has made a film that stands on its own as an iconic new member of the hand-to-hand action canon. We are thrilled to be working with the immensely talented team to bring this riveting story to theaters,” he added.
The script was penned by Magali Rossitto, Guillaume Lemans, and Gens.
