Director Jaume Collet-Serra (known for House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows) returns with the Universal & Blumhouse thriller The Woman in the Yard, and the first trailer has just dropped, offering a chilling glimpse of the eerie figure at the heart of the story.

The Woman in the Yard will be released in theaters on March 28, 2025.

The new trailer introduces a strange woman dressed entirely in black who suddenly appears in a family’s front yard, cryptically warning them, “today’s the day.”

The film stars Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall, The Piano Lesson) as Ramona, a woman who, after surviving a car accident that claims the life of her husband (Russell Hornsby; BMF, Fences), is left to care for their two children, a 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson; Respect, American Refugee) and a 6-year-old daughter (Estella Kahiha; Will Trent, BMF), in their isolated farmhouse. But when the strange woman appears in their yard, Ramona initially assumes she’s either lost or mentally unstable. As the woman draws closer to the house, however, it becomes clear that she is no ordinary figure, and her intentions are far from benign. Ramona must find a way to protect her family from the relentless presence that will not leave them alone.

The film is written by first-time screenwriter Sam Stefanak, and Collet-Serra directs.

This marks a reunion between Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who previously collaborated on the action thriller Carry On. Deadwyler is best known for her roles in Till and The Harder They Fall, and she also appeared in A24’s I Saw the TV Glow. In addition to starring in The Woman in the Yard, Deadwyler serves as an executive producer alongside Collet-Serra, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg, and James Mora. Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain are on board as producers.
