As 2022 drew to a close, we received exciting news that production had concluded on the enigmatic psychedelic horror film titled “The Trip.” The film boasts an impressive cast featuring genre icons and familiar faces, including Hannah Fierman (known for “V/H/S/”), Doug Bradley (famous for “Hellraiser”), John Amplas (of George A. Romero’s “Martin” fame), and Lori Cardille (renowned for her role in Romero’s “Day of the Dead”). Notably, the presence of Amplas and Cardille in the film felt fitting as “The Trip” was shot in Pennsylvania, near Romero’s beloved Pittsburgh.

Fast forward nearly ten months, and “The Trip” is now set to make its debut, with the premiere scheduled at the Lindsay Theater in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, on October 26th. To build anticipation for the premiere, a trailer has been released online, which you can watch above.

Written and directed by Dean Jacobs, “The Trip” is brought to us by Collective Imagination Productions and has been described as a blend of “Deliverance” and “The Amityville Horror” with a hint of hallucinogenic substances. Another description characterizes it as “one part haunted house story, one part slasher film,” with that recurring dash of hallucinogens. The film’s synopsis revolves around four childhood friends who embark on a weekend getaway to a rural farmhouse in Pennsylvania, expecting a relaxing time of indulgence. However, they soon discover that the house has other sinister plans in store, turning what was supposed to be fun into a nightmarish ordeal.

The filmmakers have noted that while some names have been altered for privacy reasons and creative liberties have been taken, much of the story is grounded in reality.

Joining the aforementioned cast members are Luke Edwards, Evan Sloan, and Calvin Dittmore. Additionally, Dean Jacobs takes on an acting role in the film.

A Pittsburgh native, Jacobs returned to his hometown to craft “The Trip.” This endeavor marks his debut as a feature film director, and he is committed to paying homage to the legacy of George Romero, a creative force synonymous with Pittsburgh and the zombie genre. Jacobs emphasizes that the story unfolds just an hour outside Pittsburgh, with the entire film shot on location in a 167-year-old farmhouse.
