Legendary Entertainment is resurrecting “The Toxic Avenger” in an R-rated remake directed by Macon Blair (known for “I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore” and “Green Room”). The new NSFW red band trailer, as shared by IGN, offers a tantalizing glimpse of the jaw-dropping, gruesome mayhem to come.

This upcoming film reimagines Lloyd Kaufman’s classic Troma cult hit “The Toxic Avenger.” It focuses on Winston Gooze, portrayed by “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage.

You can watch the “Eyewitness Toxie” trailer above to get a taste of the wild horror-comedy fun, complete with nods to Troma’s distinctive style.

According to Troma, “While the original film (which premiered almost 40 years ago in 1984) followed the story of Melvin Ferd Junko III (Mitch Cohen), who transforms from a zero to a toxic hero due to a bullying incident gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take introduces us to a grotesquely deformed creature with superhuman size and strength.”

Peter Dinklage takes on the role of Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who, after a mishap involving a vat of toxic waste, becomes The Toxic Avenger himself. This timely reimagining delves into environmental themes as Winston battles against the malevolent forces of greed and corruption to save his son, friends, and community.

The official synopsis also highlights the connection to the original, stating, “Even as this story exists on its own terms, the spirit undoubtedly remains connected to the original. Troma fans, old and new, will be pleased to know that the film has been rated ‘R’ for violence and gore – in keeping with Troma tradition.”

Macon Blair’s “The Toxic Avenger” has earned its “R” rating due to “Strong violence and gore, language throughout, sexual references, and brief graphic nudity.” And of course, there’s the memorable “butt guts.” Never forget the butt guts.

The film also features a star-studded cast, including Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay. While the release date and distribution details are pending, fans eagerly await the return of “The Toxic Avenger.” Stay tuned for updates.
