An outbreak in the outback sets the stage for the upcoming killer kangaroo creature feature, “The Red.”

In the film, currently in post-production, a young sheriff, driven by the desire to honor her deceased father’s legacy, faces a daunting test of her courage as locals begin turning up brutally mauled.

“The Red” serves as a feature-length expansion of Ryan Coonan’s acclaimed 2014 festival short film, “Waterborne,” and is directed and written by Coonan in collaboration with Richard Barcaricchio.

Starring in the film are Micheal Biehn, Tess Haubrich, Aaron Pederson, and Angie Milliken.

Above, you can watch the original short film that inspired “The Red.” Initially hailed as “the world’s first zombie kangaroo film” and a prelude to the feature film, “Waterborne” has amassed over 1.6 million views on YouTube since its release nine years ago.

Stay tuned for more updates on “The Red,” including its official release date.
