‘The First Omen’ Makes $17 Million in Global Opening Weekend

After an 18-year hiatus, fans of the classic horror franchise “The Omen” are treated to its return to the big screen with director Arkasha Stevenson’s “The First Omen,” positioned as a prequel to the original 1976 classic.

“The First Omen” marks a significant moment for the franchise, as it follows the lackluster reception of the 2006 remake. Despite the remake’s worldwide box office haul of $119 million, it failed to capture the essence of the original. Now, with “The First Omen,” fans and critics alike eagerly awaited its reception.

In its debut weekend, “The First Omen” delivered a promising performance, scaring up $8.3 million domestically and an additional $9.1 million internationally, resulting in a worldwide box office debut of $17,463,000. This figure nearly matches the domestic opening weekend total of the 2006 remake, which garnered $16 million in the United States.

With a reported production budget of $30 million, slightly higher than its predecessor, “The First Omen” still has ground to cover before turning a profit.

However, beyond the financial aspect, the true success of “The First Omen” lies in its quality. Unlike the remake, the film has received widespread acclaim, with critics praising its exceptional craftsmanship and captivating storytelling. Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting lauded the film, describing it as a worthy expansion of the classic, showcasing impeccable performances and a compelling narrative that leaves a lasting impact.

Director Arkasha Stevenson’s vision has not only honored Richard Donner’s classic but also established her as a bold new voice in horror, earning further accolades for her directorial prowess.

Starring Nell Tiger Free, “The First Omen” takes audiences on a thrilling journey as a young American woman confronts darkness and uncovers a sinister conspiracy while beginning a life of service to the church in Rome.

Now playing in theaters nationwide, “The First Omen” is a must-see for horror enthusiasts eager for a captivating and chilling cinematic experience.
