James Wan, the mastermind behind a slew of beloved villains over the past two decades, has left an indelible mark on the world of horror. Iconic characters like Jigsaw and Annabelle have become modern-day horror legends, but none have sent shivers down spines quite like Valak, the demonic nun who made her spine-tingling debut in ‘The Conjuring 2.’ Portrayed by the hauntingly talented Bonnie Aarons, Valak left such an impression that she earned her own spinoff film in 2018.

‘The Nun’ quickly rose to the top as the most financially successful entry in the expansive Conjuring Universe, and now, in 2023, we find ourselves in the chilling presence of a brand-new sequel gracing theaters.

But this time, Valak isn’t content to remain confined to the silver screen.

Horror cinema and viral marketing are like a match made in hell, and Warner Bros. has joined forces with Triple Play for a digital campaign they’ve aptly named “#ISawANun.”

Imagine this: surveillance footage capturing heart-pounding jump scares and spine-chilling glimpses of a mysterious ‘Nun’ from various corners of the globe.

“Across social platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Facebook, we’re taking our audience on an unforgettable journey as we unveil these spine-tingling videos. It’s all about showcasing nuns mysteriously appearing in the most unexpected places,” the team explains.

They go on to elaborate, “Our goal is to offer a taste of the unexplained, the supernatural, and the downright eerie. This is an invitation for our audience to step into Valak’s world and get a taste of the terror awaiting them when they watch this film.”

In other words, creepy nuns have usurped the throne of creepy clowns. You’ll stumble upon a variety of #ISawANun videos on TikTok, including some here and here, where the nuns materialize on security cameras, doorbell cams, and even dashboard cameras. The suspense is palpable; you can never predict where they might manifest next.
