As Halloween approaches, while Netflix delves into the true story that served as the inspiration for “The Conjuring 3,” Apple TV+ is gearing up to explore the eerie events of “The Enfield Poltergeist,” which provided the foundation for “The Conjuring 2.”

This upcoming four-part documentary series, aptly titled “The Enfield Poltergeist,” promises to unravel the captivating tale behind one of the most famous poltergeist hauntings in history.

Drawing upon an impressive archive of over 250 hours of rare audio recordings, meticulous efforts to recreate the haunting’s setting, and exclusive interviews with individuals directly impacted by the case, this series stands as a remarkable, genre-bending narrative. It delves deep into our innate fascination with the unexplained and its profound effects on those who find themselves entangled in such mysteries. You can catch all episodes of this chilling series when it premieres worldwide on Friday, October 27.

Back in 1977, a harrowing haunting unfolded within the everyday life of a family in Enfield, London. This haunting not only captured the attention of the United Kingdom but also left an indelible mark on an entire generation of children. The inexplicable events shattered preconceived notions about the supernatural, demonstrating that it could manifest anywhere, affecting anyone. The spine-tingling story has even inspired fictionalized adaptations, including the blockbuster film “The Conjuring 2,” a television series, and two stage productions.

Across the four episodes of “The Enfield Poltergeist,” viewers will be taken on a journey back in time as the haunting events in Enfield are meticulously reconstructed using actual recordings captured by Maurice Grosse, a paranormal investigator who diligently archived all his interviews with those touched by the phenomenon. By painstakingly recreating the Enfield house where these eerie incidents unfolded, actors bring to life the chilling events documented on those original tapes. This approach creates a unique interplay between archival voices and the present-day interviews of those who were intimately involved in the haunting.

“The Enfield Poltergeist” is a production for Apple TV+ by MetFilm and Concordia Studio, the same teams behind Apple’s acclaimed documentary “STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” which earned numerous Emmy nominations this year. The series is under the expert direction of Jerry Rothwell.

The executive producers behind this spine-tingling exploration include Al Morrow, BAFTA winner Stewart le Maréchal, Oscar Award-winning Davis Guggenheim, Jonathan Silberberg, and Nicole Stott.
