Motherhood continues to be a rich theme for horror in The Beldham, the directorial debut of Angela Gulner. A chilling new clip from this psychological thriller has been released ahead of its premiere at the Austin Film Festival.
Patricia Heaton stars as Sadie, a determined mother who will do anything to shield her family from a monstrous presence threatening to tear them apart.
In ‘The Beldham’, struggling new mom Harper moves in with her mother to renovate an old suburban farmhouse. Joined by her mother’s new boyfriend and a mysterious live-in aide, both of whom claim to be there to assist with Harper’s postpartum care, things take a sinister turn as a dark force lurks within the house, aiming for Harper’s child. As Harper delves deeper, she uncovers unsettling truths about her reality and begins to question the intentions of those around her.
The cast also includes Katie Parker (The Fall of the House of Usher, Absentia), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Collection), and Corbin Bernsen.
Gulner shared with IndieWire, “Over the past three years, I witnessed my grandmother’s physical and mental decline, while my own mother sacrificed her health to care for her. I felt the echoes of that grief resonate within me. The role reversal that comes with aging between parent and child is terrifying and often debilitating. This story emerged from my process of grieving, but more so from my exploration of love.”
The Beldham will screen at the Austin Film Festival on Friday, October 25, following its debut at the Sitges International Film Festival.
