Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the dynamic duo behind the cult classic “28 Days Later,” are gearing up for a long-awaited reunion with the launch of the 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy. Excitement is mounting as the release date for the first installment in the new trilogy has finally been unveiled.

Mark your calendars for June 20, 2025, when “28 Years Later” will hit theaters nationwide, courtesy of Sony Pictures.

Joining the star-studded cast are Jack O’Connell (“Amy Winehouse: Back To Black”), alongside previously announced talents Jodie Comer (“Alone in the Dark,” “Killing Eve”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kraven the Hunter”), and Ralph Fiennes (“The Menu”).

With Alex Garland penning the script and Danny Boyle returning to the director’s chair, fans can expect a gripping continuation of the adrenaline-fueled saga. Meanwhile, Nia DaCosta (“Candyman,” “The Marvels”) is set to helm the second installment of the trilogy.

Cillian Murphy, who headlined the original 2002 film, joins the project as an executive producer, adding his expertise to the production.

“28 Days Later” captivated audiences with its harrowing depiction of a world ravaged by a deadly virus, leading to widespread chaos and desperation. The sequel, “28 Weeks Later,” directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and starring Jeremy Renner, explored the aftermath of the epidemic and the struggles of survivors attempting to rebuild society.

Speculation about a third installment, initially dubbed “28 Months Later,” has circulated for years. Now, with the official announcement of “28 Years Later,” it seems that the franchise is finally poised for a triumphant return to the silver screen. Stay tuned for further updates as this thrilling saga unfolds!
