‘Stopmotion’ Movie: Characters Spring to Life in Forthcoming IFC & Shudder Horror Film
Actress Aisling Franciosi, known for her roles in “The Nightingale” and “Last Voyage of the Demeter,” is gearing up for her next project, the intriguing horror film titled “Stopmotion.” The movie’s killer premise has piqued the interest of many.
In a recent report by Variety, it was announced that “Stopmotion” has been acquired by IFC Films, just ahead of its premiere at Fantastic Fest. The film is set to make its debut in theaters and eventually on Shudder in 2024. IFC has secured the North American and select international rights for the film.
Directed by Robert Morgan, “Stopmotion” stars Aisling Franciosi as Ella Blake, a stop-motion animator struggling to grapple with her inner demons following the loss of her overbearing mother. Left entirely alone in the world, she embarks on the creation of a dark and eerie puppet film, all the while wrestling to preserve her own sanity.
As Ella’s mental state begins to unravel, the characters within her animated film take on a terrifying life of their own. The unrestrained power of her imagination sets off a chain of events that threatens to consume her.
Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ film group, expressed excitement about the film’s acquisition by IFC and Shudder. He stated, “IFC and Shudder are ecstatic to bring Robert Morgan’s riveting live-action/animation hybrid to audiences everywhere. ‘Stopmotion’ is excellent as it weaves together a unique, psychological-horror with unbelievable visuals.” Shooman also highlighted how the film adds to the growing roster of critically acclaimed titles that challenge the boundaries of stop-motion in the horror genre.
Robert Morgan, the film’s director, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership with IFC and Shudder, stating, “IFC’s superb back catalogue speaks for itself, and Shudder’s embracing of the weirder and distinctive side of horror cinema means this is the perfect home for my first feature.” He looks forward to sharing “Stopmotion” with audiences in the near future.
The screenplay for “Stopmotion” was crafted by Robert Morgan and Robin King. With its blend of psychological horror and remarkable visuals, the film promises to be a captivating addition to the horror genre.
