Stephen King Offers Continued Support for Warner Bros.’ Shelved Remake of ‘Salem’s Lot’

Stephen King has once again taken to Twitter to express his frustration over the delayed release of the highly anticipated adaptation of his novel Salem’s Lot. Directed by Gary Dauberman, the film was initially slated for a theatrical release on September 9, 2022, but has since been pushed back to April 21, 2023, and then removed from the schedule altogether.

In his tweet, King assures fans that he has seen the new Salem’s Lot and considers it to be quite good, praising its old-school horror filmmaking approach with a slow build and a big payoff. However, he questions why Warner Bros. is holding back the release, stating that there is no reason for it to be delayed as the film is not embarrassing in any way. He concludes by jokingly remarking, “Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”

The delay has raised concerns among horror enthusiasts that the studio may not have confidence in the film and could potentially bury it entirely. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this speculation, and it is more likely that the film will eventually premiere on the Warner Bros. streaming service, HBO Max.

As fans eagerly await further updates on the Salem’s Lot remake, they remain hopeful that the film will eventually see the light of day and deliver on its promise of spine-chilling horror.

In the upcoming Salem’s Lot 2023, set around the year 1975 when Stephen King’s book was first published, author Ben Mears revisits his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot seeking inspiration for his next book. However, upon his return, he uncovers a dark secret: the town is under the grip of a bloodthirsty vampire and his devoted follower.

The cast features Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, and Pilou Asbaek.

Director Gary Dauberman’s team includes cinematographer Michael Burgess, production designer Marc Fisichella, editor Luke Ciarrocchi, composers Nathan Barr and Lisbeth Scott, costume designer Virginia Johnson, and first assistant director Jeffrey “JP” Wetzel.

Tobe Hooper helmed the initial adaptation of Salem’s Lot in 1979, followed by a mini-series in 2004.
