‘SOULM8TE,’ a Blumhouse Film, to Expand the ‘M3GAN’ Universe in 2026
Blumhouse’s expansion of the ‘M3GAN’ universe continues with the announcement of a spinoff horror movie titled ‘SOULM8TE,’ set to hit theaters on January 2, 2026. This follows the upcoming sequel ‘M3GAN 2.0,’ scheduled for release on June 27, 2025.
According to Deadline, ‘SOULM8TE’ is described as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist.” Directed by Kate Dolan (‘You Are Not My Mother’), the film explores a man’s acquisition of an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his wife. His attempt to create a sentient partner unwittingly transforms a benign lovebot into a lethal soulmate.
Dolan, who rewrote the original script by Rafael Jordan (‘Salvage Marines’), collaborates on the story with James Wan and Ingrid Bisu. She expressed, “Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness. Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
James Wan, producing through Atomic Monster, praised Dolan’s vision, stating, “‘SOULM8TE’ is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
‘M3GAN,’ a breakout success for Blumhouse in 2022, grossed $180 million worldwide, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the studio’s expanding cinematic universe.
