Sony’s ‘Until Dawn’ Film Adaptation to Introduce New Characters and Storyline
Sony had more in store at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025, unveiling new film projects, including a Helldivers adaptation. Alongside that, they shared exciting details about the film version of Until Dawn. According to IGN, Ashley Brucks, president of Sony’s Screen Gems, confirmed that director David F. Sandberg’s Until Dawn will stay true to the essence of the original game while presenting a new story and an entirely fresh cast of characters.
Brucks emphasized the importance of respecting the source material when adapting the game for the screen. “The key to successfully adapting these games comes down to one thing: respecting the source material,” she explained. “Our close collaboration with PlayStation Productions gives us the advantage of working directly with the creators of the game. It’s all about striking the right balance between incorporating what fans love and introducing something fresh for newcomers.”
Brucks also praised Sandberg for capturing the heart of the game. “He took the essence of what makes the game great, selecting key elements that resonate with fans, and paid homage to them in the right way,” she added.
Peter Stormare, who played Doctor Hill in the original game and will portray a new character in the film, echoed Brucks’ sentiments. “I’ve been lucky to be part of Until Dawn since the original, incredible, super terrifying game,” Stormare said. “That’s why I’m so excited to be part of this film – it’s a love letter to horror and fully honors the spirit of the game.”
He further teased the upcoming film, stating, “The movie will introduce fresh characters and victims in a new story full of twists. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, get ready for Until Dawn like you’ve never seen it before.”
Until Dawn is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 25. The cast includes Stormare, Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Never Have I Ever), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Odessa A’zion (Hulu’s Hellraiser), Maia Mitchell, and Belmont Cameli.
The film will follow a group of eight teenagers who spend a night at a cabin on Blackwood Mountain, one year after the mysterious disappearance of two girls—twin sisters to one of the group members. Soon after their arrival, the teens find themselves under attack by a psychopath, forcing them to survive until daylight.
