Sony Acquires Film & TV Rights to the Classic Murder-Mystery Board Game ‘Clue’
Clue, the timeless murder-mystery game, is making a comeback to screens both big and small, as reported by Variety this week. Sony has set its sights on potential film and television adaptations for this iconic board game.
Variety reveals, “Hasbro Entertainment has inked a deal with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to secure the film and TV rights for the beloved Clue board game.”
Hasbro’s Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano express their confidence in Sony as the ideal partner for adapting such a culturally significant and mystery-defining property. They commend Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope, and their teams as outstanding creative collaborators, poised to tackle the challenge of uncovering the truth behind the game’s mysteries after 75 years.
Originally conceived by Anthony E. Pratt in 1943, Clue has seen various adaptations over the years, including a renowned feature film in 1985 starring Tim Curry, as well as a mini-series in 2011.
While Ryan Reynolds was previously linked to a remake project under 20th Century Studios, and Fox Entertainment once toyed with the idea of developing an animated series, Sony’s venture marks a fresh approach to bringing Clue to contemporary audiences.
