A modern interpretation of Mary Shelley’s timeless horror tale is making its way to the silver screen in the form of “Lisa Frankenstein.” This cinematic venture, written by Diablo Cody (known for her work on “Jennifer’s Body”) and helmed by director Zelda Williams, promises a fresh perspective on a classic narrative.

The leading roles in this Focus Features production are taken up by Kathryn Newton, renowned for her performance in “Freaky,” and Cole Sprouse, familiar to audiences from his role in “Riverdale.” Entertainment Weekly has treated eager fans to a sneak peek with two exclusive first-look images.

Joining the ensemble cast are notable actors such as Carla Gugino, celebrated for her appearance in “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Liza Soberano, known for “Alone/Together,” Joe Chrest from “Stranger Things,” and Henry Eikenberry, recognized for his work in “The Crowded Room.”

The premise of “Lisa Frankenstein” unfolds in 1989, focusing on an unpopular high school student who inadvertently resurrects a dashing Victorian cadaver during a thunderstorm. She embarks on a mission to transform him into the ideal man using the makeshift laboratory of her garage, a broken tanning bed.

A fresh official plot synopsis sheds light on the essence of the story: “A coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.”

In addition to her screenwriting duties, Diablo Cody also assumes a role as a producer for the film, collaborating with Mason Novick to bring this unique and intriguing cinematic vision to life.
