“Sneak Peek at ‘The Soul Eater’: Glimpse of Upcoming Chilling Horror by ‘Inside’ Directors”
Next in line from the French filmmaking duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, renowned for their intense slasher film “Inside” and the aquatic haunted house tale “The Deep House,” is their adaptation of the grisly thriller “The Soul Eater” by Alexis Laipsker. Thanks to Deadline, we now have a tantalizing new image to provide a glimpse into the eerie horror awaiting us.
Earlier this year, Maury took to Instagram to announce the commencement of production on this film, marking their seventh feature collaboration.
In “The Soul Eater,” a chilling drama unfolds within the confines of a mountain village, where an ancient legend concerning a malevolent entity resurfaces in the wake of local children vanishing and a series of violent, gruesome deaths.
For this project, the directors have reunited with Simon Roca, the cinematographer behind “Kandisha.”
The cast includes Virginie Ledoyen (“Rabid Dogs,” “The Beach”), Paul Hamy (“Get In”), and Sandrine Bonnaire.
The official synopsis of the novel also hints at another blood-soaked genre film from these seasoned filmmakers:
“‘He didn’t scream. They never scream.’ Some well-kept secrets sometimes prove too burdensome to bear. As the mysterious disappearance of children and a spree of brutal murders plague a tranquil mountain village, an age-old legend wrapped in sulfuric mystery resurfaces. Pressed by the demands of their respective roles, Commander Guardiano and Captain of the Gendarmerie De Rolan are compelled to join forces in their quest for the truth.”
“The Soul Eater” is a collaboration between Phase 4 Productions and Place du MarchĂ© Productions, with plans for a theatrical release in France.
According to Deadline, Paris-based WTFilms has come on board “The Soul Eater” ahead of its presentation at the upcoming American Film Market. There, a promotional screening of the film is scheduled. With the project currently in post-production, news regarding its release plan is likely to follow soon.
WTFilms has also been behind the recent festival hit “Infested,” previously titled “Vermin.” In a review from Fantastic Fest, Trace Thurman noted, “VaniÄek has crafted what is possibly the best ‘when spiders attack’ movie in over 30 years, and that is no small feat. ‘Infested,’ for lack of a better phrase, has plenty of bite.”
