Sony’s Screen Gems, recognized for recent chilling releases like “Insidious: The Red Door,” “The Pope’s Exorcist,” and “The Invitation,” is set to deepen its impact in the horror realm, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter tonight. In pursuit of this goal, they’ve inked a first-look deal with Gary Dauberman (“Salem’s Lot”) to spearhead the development of feature films within the genre.

According to THR, this move aligns with Sony’s efforts to revitalize Screen Gems, their division dedicated to lower-budgeted projects, into a more robust label, with a special emphasis on horror.

Under the terms of the agreement, Dauberman will not only craft projects for himself but also curate a lineup showcasing both established and emerging filmmakers.

Ashley Brucks of Screen Gems praised Dauberman’s prowess in creating gripping and immersive horror worlds. She stated, “Gary has an extraordinary ability to create terrifying worlds and deliver a visceral experience through meticulously crafted stories and characters.” Brucks expressed excitement about the partnership, citing Dauberman as a driving force in the horror genre.

In response, Dauberman conveyed his enthusiasm about joining the horror journey at Sony Pictures and Screen Gems. He specifically lauded Ashley’s vision and dedication to the genre, thanking the executives for their trust and commitment to horror aficionados.

Dauberman’s footprint in horror is undeniable, having penned successful frights like “IT” (2017), “The Nun,” and “IT: Chapter Two.” His directorial debut, “Annabelle Comes Home,” arrived in 2019. He’s also taken the helm for the remake of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot,” which currently awaits a release strategy.
