Russell Crowe Leads in Horror Film ‘The Exorcism’ (Previously ‘The Georgetown Project’)
Amidst anticipation for a sequel to “The Pope’s Exorcist,” Russell Crowe ventures into fresh territory, demonstrating his versatility in the upcoming horror film “The Exorcism,” as reported by Deadline. Contrary to its name, this project bears no connection to “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Vertical has secured the North American rights to “The Exorcism,” slated for theatrical release on June 7. Additionally, Shudder has acquired distribution rights for a later home release.
Originally titled “The Georgetown Project,” “The Exorcism” centers on Anthony Miller, portrayed by Crowe, an actor grappling with personal demons while filming a supernatural horror movie. As his unraveling intensifies, his estranged daughter, played by Ryan Simpkins, questions whether his struggles stem from past addictions or something more sinister.
Joining Crowe and Simpkins are Sam Worthington (“Avatar: The Way of Water”), Chloe Bailey (“Praise This”), Adam Goldberg (“The Equalizer”), and David Hyde Pierce (“Frasier”).
Directing “The Exorcism” is Joshua John Miller, known for his work on “The Final Girls” (2015), with a screenplay penned by Miller and M.A. Fortin (“The Final Girls”). Notably, Kevin Williamson (“Scream,” “Sick”) serves as producer, adding his signature touch to the project.
