Reviving a Horror Icon: Eddie Izzard Brings ‘Doctor Jekyll’ to Life on Creepy Duck’s Poster for the Upcoming Reimagining
Exciting news for horror fans as Eddie Izzard is set to star in the highly anticipated film “Doctor Jekyll” from Hammer Studios. The official poster art has been unveiled by Fangoria, courtesy of Creepy Duck Design.
Directed by Joe Stephenson, known for his work on acclaimed dramas like “Chicken” and the feature documentary “McKellen: Playing the Part,” the film offers a modern interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s renowned novella, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.” Stephenson, who collaborated with first-time writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern in developing the project, is also producing the film.
In this fresh take on the story, Emmy winner Eddie Izzard takes on the lead role of Dr. Nina Jekyll, a trans character that brings a unique perspective to the narrative. Director Stephenson clarifies that the film’s focus is not solely on gender but instead stays true to the original themes of Stevenson’s work.
Joining Izzard is rising star Scott Chambers, who portrays Rob, Nina Jekyll’s newly hired help. The story centers around their unlikely friendship as they team up to prevent Hyde from wreaking havoc and destroying Nina’s life. The cast also includes talented actors Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, and Simon Callow.
With over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, the character of Jekyll and Hyde has been portrayed by notable actors such as John Barrymore, Fredric March, Spencer Tracy, Jack Palance, and most recently, Russell Crowe. However, this new incarnation promises a fresh perspective and a captivating performance by Izzard.
The film is produced by Stephenson, with Guy de Beaujeu (known for “Journey’s End”) and Liam Coutts (from “The Good Drug”) joining as producers. Christian Angermayer, known for his involvement in “Army of Thieves” and “Filth,” serves as the executive producer.
Fans of horror and classic literature can look forward to the release of “Doctor Jekyll,” where Eddie Izzard’s portrayal of Dr. Nina Jekyll is set to captivate audiences in this exciting reimagining of the beloved horror tale.
