Report: Radio Silence Steps Away from Directing ‘Scream 7’; Christopher Landon in Negotiations?

Radio Silence, the talented filmmaking team behind successful movies like “V/H/S,” “Southbound,” and “Ready or Not,” resurrected Ghostface in the hit sequel “Scream” in 2022. They continued their directorial prowess this year with “Scream VI,” which also proved to be a box-office success, hinting at the inevitable release of “Scream VII.”

Although Paramount and Spyglass have yet to officially announce “Scream VII,” rest assured that the project is indeed in development. Recent rumors suggested that Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett might not return to direct the seventh installment, with speculation swirling around Christopher Landon (known for “Happy Death Day” and “Freaky”) potentially taking the helm.

The rumors surrounding Radio Silence are partly true. The team was initially keen on directing “Scream VII,” but they found themselves occupied with an upcoming Universal Studios monster movie. This mysterious project, still shrouded in secrecy, lacks an official plot synopsis and title. With their attention focused on the Universal film, the scheduling conflict made it difficult for Radio Silence to return to the “Scream” franchise.

Regarding Christopher Landon, BD reports that he is indeed in talks to direct “Scream VII,” and further updates will be provided as we learn more.

Unfortunately, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have affected productions throughout Hollywood, leading to delays in starting production on “Scream VII.”

As we eagerly await further developments, stay tuned for any updates on the highly anticipated continuation of the iconic “Scream” saga.
