Zack Snyder is gearing up to create a captivating cinematic universe with his ambitious two-film sci-fi venture, “Rebel Moon.” The first installment is set to debut on Netflix’s streaming platform on December 22nd, and to build excitement ahead of the release, Netflix has now shared intriguing insights into the characters that populate the world of “Rebel Moon.” Several character images can be found below.

Snyder has been open about his hopes to establish “a massive IP and a universe that can be built out” based on the foundation of “Rebel Moon.” He co-crafted the film’s story with Kurt Johnstad, known for his work on “300,” and together with Shay Hatten, co-writer of “Army of the Dead,” they penned the screenplay. Drawing inspiration from “Seven Samurai,” the story unfolds when a peaceful colony on the galaxy’s edge faces a dire threat from the armies of a tyrannical ruler named Balisarius. In a desperate bid for survival, the colonists send a young woman with a mysterious past on a quest to seek warriors from neighboring planets to aid in their resistance.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Sofia Boutella (“The Mummy”), Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”), Djimon Hounsou (“A Quiet Place Part II”), Ray Fisher (“Justice League”), Doona Bae (“The Host”), Jena Malone (“Sucker Punch”), Staz Nair (“Supergirl”), E. Netflix has now provided additional information about the characters in the film: Ed Skrein portrays Admiral Atticus Noble, a menacing Imperium enforcer. Sofia Boutella is Kora, an Imperium deserter who embarks on a journey to fight back. Charlie Hunnam embodies Kai, a mercenary pilot whose Tawau-Class freighter becomes instrumental in Kora’s quest. Michiel Huisman plays Gunnar, a Veldt farmer with limited knowledge of the broader galaxy beyond his peaceful corner. Djimon Hounsou takes on the role of General Titus, a seasoned gladiator who once served the Imperium. Staz Nair is Tarak, a noble indentured servant with a unique bond to a flying creature called a Bennu. Doona Bae portrays Nemesis, a cyborg sword master wielding molten-metal weapons with her mechanical hands. Ray Fisher embodies Darrian Bloodaxe, an insurgent who mounts guerilla attacks against the Imperium. E. Duffy plays Milius, a refugee seeking justice for their fallen colony. Anthony Hopkins brings “Jimmy,” an ancient robot knight who once defended a fallen king but now lives a more peaceful existence, to life.

Producing the project is a powerhouse trio: Zack Snyder, his wife Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller, through their company Stone Quarry. Eric Newman is producing via his banner, Grand Electric, while Sarah Bowen, also from Grand Electric, serves as executive producer.
