Following a successful festival run, which commenced with its 2023 SXSW Grand Jury Award win, writer/director Paris Zarcilla’s inaugural feature film, “Raging Grace,” is gearing up for its theatrical release next month. A fresh trailer, released today, offers a glimpse into the spine-tingling, insect-infested nightmares woven into this gothic horror narrative of “coming of rage.”
This acclaimed horror film from Brainstorm Media & Doppelgänger Releasing is set to hit selected theaters on December 1, with an on-demand release scheduled for December 8.
The story revolves around Joy, an undocumented Filipino immigrant, striving to provide the best life for her daughter. Her search for stability leads her to a seemingly perfect job – caring for a terminally ill, incredibly wealthy elderly man. The new position offers generous compensation and a guaranteed roof over their heads. However, as time passes, Joy and her daughter Grace begin to unravel a web of deception and sinister secrets lurking beneath the surface, jeopardizing everything they’ve worked for.
Watch the trailer below to experience the eerie predicament in which Joy finds herself and the nightmarish events that follow.
“Raging Grace” was both written and directed by BIFA-nominee Paris Zarcilla (known for works like “Pommel” and “The Century Egg”). The film is produced by Chi Thai (renowned for “The Promise” and “Little Miss Sumo”) and features Filipina actress Max Eigenmann (“Verdict”) and David Hayman (“The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” “Finding Your Feet”) in starring roles.
In a review of the film from FrightFest, it was noted that “Paris Zarcilla’s debut is carried by the strength of its cultural specificity, perspective, and lead performers. Zarcilla wrings palpable tension from encounters and succeeds in keeping viewers on their toes through surprising revelations and the inclusion of an unpredictable child. ‘Raging Grace’ is billed as a ‘coming-of-rage’ tale, and on that, it delivers. Zarcilla’s debut makes for a fascinating horror experiment, but it’s in the deeply personal story and perspective where it shines brightest.”
Be sure to keep an eye out for Paris Zarcilla’s award-winning and haunting debut as it arrives in theaters next month.
