After encountering multiple delays, the remake of the horror classic “Nosferatu” by acclaimed director Robert Eggers (“The Witch,” “The Lighthouse,” “The Northman”) is finally making progress. Prague Reporter recently announced that filming for the new movie has recently concluded.

According to the site, “Nosferatu” quietly wrapped up its three-month shoot in Prague on May 19. Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke also confirmed that the film was shot in color, evoking the aesthetic of 19th-century Romanticism.

“Nosferatu” has been a passion project for Eggers for several years, with the initial announcement dating back to 2016. Over time, the project faced setbacks and fell apart on multiple occasions. Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles were once attached to the film, but now Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, and Lily-Rose Depp are set to star. Eggers will direct the movie for Focus Features.

Recent updates reveal that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson have joined the cast. Bill Skarsgard will reportedly portray Nosferatu/Count Orlok in the film.

“Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu” presents a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th-century Germany and an ancient Transylvanian vampire who relentlessly pursues her, bringing untold horrors.

Eggers, who also wrote the script, showcases his directorial skills in this highly anticipated project. The original 1922 version of “Nosferatu” was directed by F.W. Murnau, while renowned German filmmaker Werner Herzog created his own notable adaptation in 1979.

The 1922 silent film followed the vampire Count Orlok, who seeks to purchase a house in Germany and becomes infatuated with the wife of the real estate agent. Although an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” the film nearly faced destruction, highlighting its enduring impact on cinematic history.
