In Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, a family moves into a suburban home, only to become convinced that they’re not alone. As they grapple with the unsettling presence of a supernatural force, it becomes clear that something – or someone – has taken a specific interest in their daughter.
NEON will release Presence in theaters on January 24, 2025.
Check out the official final trailer for Presence above.
In the film, a seemingly typical haunted house story unfolds, but with a unique twist: the supernatural force is experienced from the ghost’s perspective. The family soon realizes that a malevolent presence has infiltrated their home, drawing particular attention to their young daughter.
Starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Julia Fox, Eddy Maday, and West Mulholland, the film promises a gripping and terrifying experience.
Much like last year’s In a Violent Nature, which revitalized the slasher genre by telling the story from the perspective of the malevolent force, Presence seems poised to redefine the haunted house tale. Its unique approach could make it one of the standout horror films of 2025.
It also raises an intriguing question: which other horror subgenres could benefit from a shift in perspective?
