‘Out Come the Wolves’: Director of ‘Backcountry’ Unveils Next Movie with an R Rating
Adam MacDonald, known for his previous works “Backcountry” and “Pyewacket,” returns this year with “Out Come the Wolves,” a survival horror film that has recently received an official “R” rating from the MPA.
The rating is attributed to the film’s “violent content/grisly images and language.”
IFC Films and Shudder will handle distribution in the US, while levelFILM will release the movie in Canada. The film is slated for release later this year, with specific dates yet to be announced.
“Out Come the Wolves” follows the story of a woman, played by Missy Peregrym, who takes her fianceÌ (Damon Runyan) to her remote cabin in the wilderness to meet her male best friend (Joris Jarsky). As tensions escalate between the men, they embark on a deer hunt that plunges them into the darkest depths of nature, unleashing a harrowing tale of horror.
The screenplay was crafted by Enuka Okuma, based on a story by Joris Jarsky, Adam MacDonald, and Enuka Okuma.
Adam MacDonald, originally from Montreal and now based in Toronto, has garnered attention for his directorial prowess since his debut feature “Backcountry,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). His subsequent film, “Pyewacket,” also premiered at TIFF, solidifying his reputation as a rising talent in Canadian cinema.
MacDonald’s directorial credits extend to television, where he notably helmed the third season of “Slasher: Solstice” for Netflix, followed by season four starring David Cronenberg, and the upcoming season five for AMC’s Shudder. He recently completed directing the first virtual reality horror movie experience for Meta titled “Be Mine,” written and produced by Eli Roth and starring Peyton List.
“Out Come the Wolves” is produced by High Park Entertainment in association with December Films.
