The upcoming Netflix thriller, “Leave the World Behind,” directed by Sam Esmail, the creator of “Mr. Robot,” boasts an ensemble cast that’s set to become one of the most star-studded of the year.
Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, and Mahershala Ali headline the film, with Roberts and Hawke portraying a couple embarking on a vacation that takes a nightmarish turn as the world around them unravels.
In addition to the stellar trio, the movie also features Kevin Bacon and Myha’la, further elevating its ensemble cast. Netflix has just unveiled the official teaser trailer for the film, giving audiences a glimpse of the gripping narrative. You can watch the trailer below.
“Leave the World Behind” is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on December 8, 2023. However, before its digital debut, the film will have an exclusive theatrical release nationwide on November 22, 2023.
The movie is an adaptation of the 2020 novel by Rumaan Alam, and its plot revolves around a family (played by Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke) whose vacation takes a dark turn when two strangers (portrayed by Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) seek refuge from a rapidly escalating cyberattack. As chaos reigns, the characters must confront their roles in a world spiraling into chaos.
Sam Esmail, the director, expressed his passion for the disaster genre and the unique approach taken in this film. Unlike many disaster films where the focus is on spectacular set pieces, “Leave the World Behind” places its characters and their reactions at the forefront, with the disaster serving as a backdrop.
Barack Obama and Michelle Obama serve as producers for this compelling disaster movie, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.
