‘Menace’: Shudder Picks Up New Horror Film from Director of ‘See for Me’
Director Randall Okita, known for “See for Me,” returns with his latest project, “Menace,” this year. Notably, the screenplay for “Menace” is penned by Thom Eberhardt, renowned for his work on the 1984 cult classic “Night of the Comet.”
According to Variety’s report this morning, IFC Films and Shudder have secured the North American rights for the upcoming film, slated for release in 2025.
Starring Isabel May of “1883” fame, “Menace” is a sci-fi horror venture brought to audiences by Image Nation Abu Dhabi and the esteemed genre label, Spooky Pictures. This collaboration marks the third feature film under Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, following the successes of “Watcher” and “Late Night with the Devil.”
The film’s premise follows a research student portrayed by Isabel May, who experiences a psychotic breakdown and finds herself under the care of her aunt and uncle in a quaint small town. As peculiar occurrences unfold and people vanish without a trace, she grapples with the blurred lines between reality and her own imagination.
“Menace” marks Thom Eberhardt’s return to screenwriting after a two-decade hiatus. Eberhardt’s notable credits include “Sole Survivor” (1984), “All I Want for Christmas” (1991), “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid” (1992), and “Captain Ron” (1992). Additionally, Eberhardt has directed several of his scripts, including “Sole Survivor,” “Night of the Comet,” and “Captain Ron.”
Producing “Menace” for Spooky Pictures are industry veterans Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, adding their expertise to what promises to be an intriguing addition to the horror genre landscape.
