Melissa Barrera and Bailee Madison Eager to Join the Cast of the ‘Scary Movie’ Reboot
Paramount has recently revealed plans to breathe new life into the beloved Scary Movie spoof series with a fresh reboot installment, slated to hit theaters next year.
This upcoming movie, a collaborative effort between Paramount and Miramax, marks the sixth installment in the franchise. Production is anticipated to kick off this fall.
While details on the creative team behind the reboot remain scarce, two actors have already expressed keen interest in joining the iconic franchise.
Melissa Barrera, known for her role in Radio Silence’s recent horror flick Abigail and her stint in the Scream series, seems like a natural fit for the comedic antics of a Scary Movie reboot. “I’ve always been a fan of those films,” Barrera shared with Inverse. “When I heard about the reboot, I thought, ‘That would be a blast.’ It’d be such a fun project to be a part of.”
She further expressed her excitement, stating, “Given the iconic cast from the original films, it’ll be intriguing to see where they take it. I’m just eager to see a fresh take on the series.”
Joining in the enthusiasm, Bailee Madison (known for roles in The Strangers: Prey at Night and the upcoming “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School”) took to Twitter to throw her hat into the ring. “Hey, scary movie 6, hit me up because I have a feeling we’d have a blast. Alright, bye,” Madison tweeted, adding to the anticipation surrounding the casting decisions. Paramount, the ball’s in your court. And don’t forget to reach out to Anna Faris and Regina Hall too.
Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the original Scary Movie made its debut in 2000, arriving just four years after Wes Craven’s genre-redefining Scream. The film brilliantly spoofed the horror landscape of its time, including nods to Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, captivating audiences worldwide with its blend of horror and comedy, raking in $278 million globally. This initial success paved the way for a franchise that spanned five installments, captivating audiences from 2000 to 2013.
