Matthew Lillard Confirms His Role in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’
Matthew Lillard is staying busy in the horror genre. Alongside his role in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming ‘Life of Chuck’ and the release of the horror-themed ‘Macabre Spirits’, Lillard has confirmed to Forbes that he will return for ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2‘.
Set to hit theaters on December 5, 2025, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ is highly anticipated. Although Lillard couldn’t share many details about the sequel, he mentioned, “Not much, to be honest. I think the filmmakers have done a great job of learning from the first movie and what fans want, and I believe they’re delivering more of that.” He added, “It’s going to be more exciting, with more action and character development. I think the story and this movie will conclude in a really thrilling way.”
In last year’s horror film, Lillard played the role of William Afton, an antagonist who faces a grim fate. However, fans of the franchise know that death isn’t final in this universe, and the film ends with the origin of Springtrap, a key villain in the games. Producer Jason Blum also confirmed that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will return to create the animatronics, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo to celebrate.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’, directed by Emma Tammi, became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film of all time upon its release in theaters and on Peacock simultaneously. Given its success, it’s no wonder that a sequel was greenlit so quickly.
