Amblin Partners, spearheaded by Steven Spielberg, has jumped on board the compelling short story concept, “Long Lost,” a 50-page horror tale crafted by writer Colin Bannon. This chilling narrative is primed for a feature film adaptation.

Although the short story remains unpublished, Universal has secured the package rights, signaling their confidence in the gripping potential of Bannon’s creation. According to Deadline, Bannon will take charge of scripting the adaptation, with sources citing a deal estimated in the low seven figures for both the story rights and the screenplay.

Described as a narrative in the vein of iconic films like “What Lies Beneath” and “Rosemary’s Baby,” “Long Lost” delves into the life of a recently married woman whose world is rattled by the sudden return of her husband’s long-presumed deceased wife. This shocking reappearance sparks unsettling fears, hinting at a sinister scheme to reclaim what was once hers.

Backing this thrilling project are Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, alongside Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon for Genre Pictures, and Scott Glassgold with Ground Control Entertainment.

Colin Bannon’s rising profile in the industry is undeniable. With an impressive track record, Deadline highlights Bannon’s exceptional screenwriting prowess, having landed scripts on the esteemed Black List an unprecedented seven times. His past successes include selling scripts like “Ultra” to Tri-Star Pictures and “First Ascent” to Netflix. Bannon’s upcoming psychological thriller, “Holdout,” is also in the pipeline at Netflix, with Elisabeth Moss set to both star in and direct the project, setting the stage for Bannon’s continued prominence in the industry.
