Leigh Whannell’s ‘The Wolf Man’ Set to Haunt Theaters in Time for Halloween 2024, Courtesy of Universal and Blumhouse

Following the success of “The Invisible Man” in 2020, director Leigh Whannell is teaming up again with Universal and Blumhouse for a fresh creation of “The Wolf Man,” as officially reported by THR today.

Christopher Abbott (known for “Poor Things”) has landed the lead role. Previously, Ryan Gosling was attached to the project, with Derek Cianfrance set to direct.

However, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, “Gosling and Cianfrance have both stepped away from the project, although Gosling will retain an executive producer credit.”

Whannell, who was initially set to direct before Cianfrance took over, will now helm “Wolf Man,” scheduled to hit theaters on October 25, 2024.

The film stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family faces terror from a deadly predator.

The writing credits go to Whannell & Corbett Tuck, alongside Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the movie, with executive producers including Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell. “Wolf Man” is a joint production of Blumhouse and Motel Movies.

This project marks Whannell’s second venture into monster movies and his fourth collaboration in directing with Blumhouse Productions (following “The Invisible Man,” “Upgrade,” and “Insidious: Chapter 3”).

Following the stumble of the Dark Universe, “The Invisible Man” stands out as the sole success for the Universal Monsters brand. Recent box office disappointments like the comedic “Renfield” and the period horror “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” have plagued the brand. Entrusting Whannell with this iconic property again seems a prudent move.

Stay tuned for further updates on this new interpretation of the Universal Monsters’ iconic figure.
