Legendary has emerged victorious in a competitive bidding war, securing an ambitious deal with Mob Entertainment to bring the horror video game “Poppy Playtime” to life on the big screen.

As reported by the website, the adaptation will delve into the eerie world of “Poppy Playtime,” a game that blends elements reminiscent of “Willy Wonka,” “Toy Story,” and “Gremlins.” Players are thrust into the shoes of a former employee of a dilapidated toy company who receives a mysterious letter, leading them back to an abandoned facility. There, they encounter a multitude of toys, including the menacing Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, and CatNap, all of which have come alive. To survive, players must unravel clues, solve puzzles, and utilize gadgets while navigating the treacherous environment.

Legendary, along with Mob Entertainment and Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, will spearhead the development and production of the anticipated horror movie.

Originally released in 2021, “Poppy Playtime” has soared in popularity, akin to the success of “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” becoming a merchandising powerhouse in recent years. Following the blockbuster success of Universal and Blumhouse’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film, which grossed $291 million worldwide, “Poppy Playtime” now stands poised to make its mark on the cinematic landscape.

With over 40 million players across various platforms, including PC, mobile, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Roblox, “Poppy Playtime” has captivated audiences with its enthralling gameplay and expanding lore. The introduction of the horror anthology’s third chapter has added depth to the franchise’s narrative, offering unexpected twists and turns that continue to engage fans.

Beyond its immersive gaming experience, “Poppy Playtime” has transcended the digital realm with a plethora of merchandise, featuring beloved characters like ‘Huggy Wuggy’ and ‘Smiling Critters.’ From collectible figures to costumes and plush toys, the franchise has extended its chilling universe into the real world, captivating fans young and old alike.
