Karen Gillan Joins the Cast of Mike Flanagan’s Next Stephen King Film, ‘The Life of Chuck’
Mike Flanagan, known for his adaptations of Stephen King’s works such as “Gerald’s Game” and “Doctor Sleep,” is set to venture into King’s realm once more with an upcoming film based on King’s tale, “The Life of Chuck.” And now, Deadline has delivered some exciting casting updates.
Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Rob Peace”), Karen Gillan (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”), and Jacob Tremblay (“The Toxic Avenger”) have all officially signed on to join the ensemble for “The Life of Chuck,” as reported by Deadline. This trio of talented actors will be joining the previously announced stars Tom Hiddleston (“Crimson Peak”) and Mark Hamill (“Star Wars”). Hiddleston is set to portray Chuck, while Hamill will take on the role of Albie.
Based on a short story from King’s 2020 anthology “If It Bleeds,” “The Life of Chuck” weaves together three distinct narratives, connected to form the unconventional biography of Charles Krantz. The storytelling unfolds in reverse chronological order, commencing with Krantz’s passing from a brain tumor at the age of 39 and culminating with his childhood experiences in a house rumored to be haunted.
According to Deadline, the project’s tone will draw inspiration from beloved King adaptations such as “Stand By Me,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and “The Green Mile.”
In addition to directing, Mike Flanagan will also be responsible for crafting the screenplay and producing the film through Intrepid Pictures. This endeavor follows Netflix’s adaptation of another King story, “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” drawn from the “If It Bleeds” collection, marking Flanagan’s continued exploration of King’s rich literary universe.
