‘Jurassic World’ 2025 Secures Gareth Edwards, Director of ‘Godzilla’ and ‘The Creator’

David Koepp, the original writer of Jurassic Park, is set to return to the prehistoric world to pen the next chapter in the Jurassic World saga. After hitting a snag in its development, the project has now secured Gareth Edwards (known for directing Godzilla in 2014 and The Creator) as its new director, as reported by THR.

According to the outlet, Edwards is currently in talks to helm the feature that was initially slated to be directed by David Leitch, known for his work on Bullet Train.

Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners have locked in a release date for the new Jurassic World installment: July 2, 2025.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, the upcoming movie is expected to offer a fresh perspective on the Jurassic era. Notably, Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to reprise their roles, and neither are original trilogy cast members Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill.

Gareth Edwards is well-versed in handling large-scale productions and monster movies, having gained recognition with his work on the Kaiju-centric Monsters in 2010 and Godzilla in 2014. He has also dabbled in effects-heavy sci-fi features, such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and last year’s The Creator.

The next Jurassic World film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing. David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will also produce through 87North. Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Creative Executive of Production Development, will oversee the project for the studio.

This announcement follows the conclusion of the Jurassic World trilogy with the release of Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, signaling Universal’s intention to continue expanding the franchise.

Additionally, fans can look forward to the return of the franchise with “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory,” an animated series set in the world of “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous,” coming to Netflix later this year.
