Jason Blum Continues His Efforts to Bring a Blumhouse ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie to Life
What’s the latest on the Friday the 13th franchise? After being in limbo for years due to legal complications, fans can finally anticipate the return of Jason Voorhees in a new television series titled “Crystal Lake,” helmed by Bryan Fuller, A24, and Peacock. With its impending release, speculation arises about the future of the film series.
Jason Blum remains persistent in his pursuit to revive the franchise under the Blumhouse banner. Despite not having ownership of the project, Blum continues to express his desire to incorporate Friday the 13th into the Blumhouse family. In a recent interview with Collider, Blum reiterated his affection for the intellectual property, stating, “[Friday the 13th] is not a Blumhouse project, but I’m trying to will it into being one. It’s just a piece of IP I’ve always loved.” He further hinted at the potential involvement of James Wan and Atomic Monster, noting their shared enthusiasm for the project.
The recent merger between Blumhouse and James Wan’s company, Atomic Monster, further fuels speculation about a potential collaboration on a Friday the 13th movie. However, Blum acknowledges that such a venture remains speculative for the time being.
Meanwhile, Peacock has greenlit a series titled “Crystal Lake,” described as an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday franchise, adding another dimension to the beloved horror saga.
