Jamie Lee Curtis to Produce Dark Thriller Series Adaptation for Blumhouse TV

Blumhouse Television has secured the rights to adapt Marisha Pessl’s #1 bestselling novel ‘Darkly‘ into a series, according to Deadline. Jamie Lee Curtis will executive produce the project through her Comet Pictures label, which has a first-look deal with Blumhouse, alongside Jason Blum, Chris Dickie, and Pessl herself. The search is now on for a screenwriter to bring the young adult psychological thriller, which was published in November by Random House, to the screen.
Here’s a glimpse at the book’s premise:
‘What would you kill for?’ When a mysterious internship opportunity with the Louisiana Veda Foundation is announced, it draws the attention of high school students across the country. Arcadia “Dia” Gannon, who has long admired the late game designer Louisiana Veda and her cult-status creations, is especially eager. After all, she’s never won anything—so she’s stunned when she’s selected as one of seven international teens chosen to intern for the Foundation.
The enigmatic Louisiana Veda, known for her groundbreaking and disturbing games under the Darkly brand, is an elusive figure. Following Veda’s untimely death, Darkly collapsed, leaving behind a collection of coveted games that now fetch astronomical prices at auction.
Thrown into the heart of Veda’s shadowy operation, Dia soon finds herself questioning everything: Who are these other interns? Why does each one seem to be hiding something? And why was she chosen in the first place? It doesn’t take long for Dia to realize that this summer’s internship might turn out to be the most sinister Darkly game yet.
The series will be overseen by Blumhouse TV’s incoming president, Melissa Aouate, who will begin her role later this month. Curtis, whose partnership with Blumhouse has already produced two series—’The Sticky’ and ‘Scarpetta’—both for Prime Video, is also set to star in and produce Russell Goldman’s upcoming psychological horror film ‘Sender’, which is currently in production.
