Jacob Elordi Cast as New Monster in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’
Guillermo del Toro, the celebrated filmmaker, is embarking on his personal rendition of Mary Shelley’s classic “Frankenstein,” and recent reports from Deadline indicate that Jacob Elordi, recognized for his roles in “Saltburn” and “The Mortuary Collection,” will step into the shoes of Frankenstein’s iconic monster, a role previously held by Andrew Garfield.
Elordi joins a stellar ensemble that includes Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Oscar Isaac, who takes on the role of Victor Frankenstein.
The narrative of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” delves into the tale of the brilliant scientist Victor Frankenstein, whose experiment in bringing life to a monster ultimately leads to the downfall of both the creator and his tragic creation. Del Toro’s approach is anticipated to infuse heightened emotions and a profound sense of empathy for Frankenstein’s creation.
Expressing his long-standing desire to tackle “Frankenstein,” del Toro shared during the 10th-anniversary screening of “Pacific Rim,” “Iâm doing Frankenstein. Weâre working on it. We start shooting in February, and itâs a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein.” Del Toro expressed his readiness to tackle this project, citing the growth and resources he now possesses to undertake this cinematic endeavor.
While Andrew Garfield’s departure resulted from scheduling conflicts, Elordi’s casting announcement coincides with the revelation that Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth,” “Cocaine Bear”) will also join the ensemble cast.
For Netflix, del Toro takes on multiple roles as producer, writer, and director for “Frankenstein,” with his specific vision for the adaptation shrouded in mystery for the time being. Teaming up with producer J. Miles Dale, known for his work on del Toroâs âCabinet Of Curiositiesâ anthology series for Netflix, del Toro is poised to bring his distinctive touch to this legendary tale.
Renowned for his romantic interpretation of the classic “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” which earned him four Academy Awards with “The Shape of Water” in 2018, del Toro is assembling his own roster of Universal Monsters with “Frankenstein.” As more details emerge about this anticipated project, we’ll keep you informed about the latest developments.
