Jack O’Connell Joins Cast of ’28 Years Later’
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are teaming up once again for the highly anticipated 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy, and Deadline has just unveiled the latest casting developments.
Jack O’Connell, known for his role in “Amy Winehouse: Back To Black,” joins the star-studded ensemble, which includes previously announced names such as Jodie Comer (“Alone in the Dark,” “Killing Eve”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kraven the Hunter”), and Ralph Fiennes (“The Menu”).
Alex Garland will pen the script for the first film, with Boyle returning to the director’s chair. Sony Pictures has enlisted Nia DaCosta (“Candyman,” “The Marvels”) to direct the second installment in the trilogy.
Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) is set to serve as executive producer for the project.
The original “28 Days Later,” released in 2002, featured Murphy in the lead role and was written by Garland, directed by Boyle. The film followed a group of survivors navigating a post-apocalyptic UK after a deadly virus outbreak.
Its sequel, “28 Weeks Later,” directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and starring Jeremy Renner, arrived in 2007. The story depicted the aftermath of the virus outbreak and the attempt to rebuild society amidst lingering threats.
Discussions surrounding a third installment, initially titled “28 Months Later,” have circulated for years. Finally, in 2024, the project is gaining traction, promising to revive the gripping saga. Stay tuned for further updates!
