Alex Wolff, known for his roles in “Hereditary,” “Old,” and the upcoming “A Quiet Place: Day One,” is stepping into the director’s chair for the dark psychological thriller “If She Burns.” Wolff is not only directing but also starring in the film, alongside a talented cast that includes Victoria Pedretti, Asa Butterfield, and Justice Smith.

“If She Burns” follows a young woman (Victoria Pedretti) who travels to Europe with her dysfunctional family after a traumatic incident. She finds refuge and danger in a turbulent affair with her enigmatic neighbor, played by Wolff. The film explores increasing family tensions and mysterious wildfires that threaten to push her to the breaking point. Described as a “dark and sexy psychological thriller,” Wolff is directing based on his own screenplay and will also write and produce music for the film in collaboration with Karl McComas-Reichl.

The production is being handled by Jay Van Hoy and Andra Gordon, with Mister Smith Entertainment’s founder and CEO, David Garrett, expressing confidence in Wolff’s directorial vision. The film is currently in pre-production and scheduled to start shooting in Italy in 2024. Mister Smith Entertainment will launch international sales for the film at the 2023 American Film Market, with WME handling North American sales. It’s worth noting that the actors were attached to the project before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Alex Wolff shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I’m exhilarated to embark on a journey with such remarkable, brave actors like Victoria, Asa, and Justice. What we put on screen will be daring, ferocious, tender, and honest. I’m honored to be able to share it.”
