The ’90s slasher classic ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ is making a comeback with a brand new film, and THR has revealed the first casting news this week.

Madelyn Cline (*Outer Banks*) and Camila Mendes (*Riverdale*) are in talks to lead Sony’s reboot, joined by Sarah Pidgeon (*Gotham*), Tyriq Withers (*Atlanta*), and Jonah Hauer-King (*The Little Mermaid*). There are also reports that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in negotiations to reprise their roles alongside the new cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film will draw inspiration from the 2022 *Scream* reboot, which blended original cast members with a group of rising stars.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (*Do Revenge*) is set to direct the reboot, with Leah McKendrick (*M.F.A.*) writing the original screenplay draft. The latest version has been co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Sam Lansky.

The original *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, directed by Jim Gillespie in 1997, was penned by Kevin Williamson (*Scream*) and adapted from Lois Duncan’s novel. It led to two sequels in 1998 and 2006, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. returning only for the first sequel.

In the 1997 film, “Four young friends bound by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.”

More recently, the franchise was revived with a short-lived television series on Amazon.
